Margarete Mjelde

Council

Margaret moved to Kootenai in 1984. She has served on the City’s council and as mayor in the past. Organizing the Kootenai Centennial was one of the favorite events of past council days. Paving the streets, drainage/stormwater projects, the City’s Park, and development of our industrial park on McGhee Road were past projects she has worked on. She is excited to be serving the people of Kootenai again.

Margaret grew up in Montana, most of her childhood was in Three Forks a small town near Boseman. She worked for the Milwaukee and later the Burlington Northern Railroads. A railroad transfer in 1979 is what brought her to Bonner County. When the railroad closed the Sandpoint Depot, she went back to college at North Idaho College and University of Idaho majoring in early childhood development. For the next twenty years she ran a small in-home daycare. Margaret has since retired and enjoys traveling.

Margaret has one grown daughter and an adorable grandaughter. She has spent many years volunteering with church youth activities, girl scouts, and school “mom” activities and has had various leadership roles in local organizations.
